Set GOALS for 2017- not New Years Resolutions!

goals for 2017

I hope you've recovered from celebrating the New Year in style!  I'm on a mission this year to set GOALS for 2017 - and I'd love you to come along with me.

Set GOALS for 2017 - not New Years Resolutions!

This year is all about those three special words..and it's not the ones you're thinking of!

There are three words you want to hear all the time:"I Love You".

There are three words that we hate at this time of year too: 'New Years Resolutions!'  But in 2017 I am getting rid of any New Years Resolutions and hitting the ground running with GOALS instead.

To me, a New Years Resolution is something that is predetermined to be broken!  We have been programmed over many years to expect to fail!  That's no use now is it?

A GOAL however is a target.  It's a destination, the end mark for where we want to be and where we will end up.  It's full of intention, aspiration and purpose.  A GOAL is a SUCCESS  So this year, I'm setting 2 goals for 2017.

I have so many things I want to achieve in 2017, both personally and professionally, but I'm limiting my goals to just TWO.  Like you, I have a million and one things to do and adding on a long list of additional things is just too daunting!

If you're getting married in 2017 or 2018 you already have a lot going on so you may be wondering where on earth to start with setting your own goals.

Here is my three step process to setting goals for 2017 that you can actually keep and achieve.

Step 1: Write down whatever comes to mind when you think of 2017.  These can be big or small things, it doesn't matter.  Perhaps you'd like to get a new job, or a promotion in your current workplace.  Maybe you'd like to exercise more or re-decorate your home.  2017 could be the time you launch your new business, write a book or travel to beautiful places.  It might be the year you decide to focus on YOU and not let anyone else get you down!

Step 2: Once you have a list of 5 -10 items, pick just 2 or 3 of them.  Any more than this and you will start to feel overloaded before you even begin.  Don't choose the 2 biggest goals on your list, decide on 1 big and 1 small one.  Add a date to each goal that you want to accomplish it by - this really helps you to keep on track.  Remember, you can always start new goals once you have achieved the first ones!

Step 3: Be accountable for your goals.  Tell your family, friends and work colleagues.  You can even ask them for their support if you like.  Create a Facebook group or online forum or find one that already exists where you can get support, advice, ideas and help with achieving your goals.

Bonus tip!  Write down your goals on a piece of paper and put it next to your bed.  Read it each morning and every night before you go to sleep and remind yourself of why  you want to achieve them!  Perhaps you want to get back in to your favourite dress or get fit for your honeymoon.  Visualise you having achieved your goals every day.

On that note.. here are my goals for 2017!

I've set myself TWO GOALS for 2017 and the best way to ensure I succeed in them is to tell you about them..accountability here I am!

GOAL 1: Launch new range of exceptional photography products for Wedding and Portrait clients.

I'm focusing even more in 2017 on creating beautiful photography products for my Brides with our collection of brand new heirloom wedding albums - LAUNCHING FEBRUARY 2017!

I've also added a selection of exclusive wall art products to give your the perfect way to display your wedding or portrait photographs on your walls at home - you're going to LOVE them! - LAUNCHING JANUARY 2017!

GOAL 2: Focus on me!

Like most of you reading this, I'm busy every day with work, family, taking care of the home, walking the dog and generally looking after everyone! 2017 is also going to be the year I work on myself! I'm going to make time for me - long hot baths, a little extra exercise and reading my favourite books!

I'm going to be in photographs with my family and children so my daughter doesn't grow up asking "where were you Mummy?" My usual answer (like most of us!) is "I was there honey but I was taking the photo!"  I'm not going to be shy in front of the camera because those moments I photograph aren't just for me, they are for my children and grandchildren too.  It's my #timetoshine!

I'd love to hear what your goals for 2017 are!  Let me know in the comments below!
